WHO:The United States Forest Service in cooperation with the Arkansas National Guard

WHAT: will conduct a prescribed burn over approximately 2,000 acres of land on Camp Joseph T. Robinson

WHEN: today, Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 beginning at approximately 1:00 p.m.

WHERE: on the northwest corner of the post in the mortar impact area near Cato and in training area 18 near Runyon Acres (Batesville Pike)

WHY:The intent of the burn is to reduce the amount of natural fuel on the ground in order to benefit wildlife and the surrounding communities with reduced risk of wildfires. Periodic burns are conducted involving small controllable areas on Camp Robinson. Post firefighters will monitor the activity, and adjacent fire departments are notified as a precaution to ensure public safety for areas neighboring the post.

Although the burns pose no threat to the public, smoke from the burns may be visible from off post causing public concern.
