1. Multiple vehicle breaking/entering, vehicle theft at multiple northwest Conway locations. A thief or thieves broke into six vehicles between about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and dawn on Monday, and apparently drove off in one of them. The thief or thieves seemed to be interested in purses, wallets and electronics left in plain sight inside the vehicles, though a Bersa Thunder .380 caliber handgun concealed inside the console of a vehicle on Chrysler Cove was also stolen. The vehicle on Chrysler Cove is described in the report as a small SUV that may have been left with its back hatch unlocked, though the other doors were. On Freedom Drive another small SUV was entered through unknown means and a TomTom GPS receiver and two iPods were stolen. On Emerald Garden road the thief or thieves smashed the window of an SUV with a rock, which was left in the floorboard, and a purse was stolen. A sedan in the same driveway and left unlocked was also entered, and a Magellan GPS receiver was stolen. On Daffodil Drive an SUV parked in a garage was entered and a black 2010 Toyota pickup truck parked on the driveway was stolen, along with a purse and about $2,000 cash. The pickup has a 4-digit personalized license plate.
2. Suspicious activity at 1005 East Oak St. (Metropolitan National Bank). Bank workers became suspicious on Monday and called police when a man they felt had been acting strangely inside the bank earlier in the day returned at about 2 p.m. Officers and a detective responded and initiated a traffic stop as the man was leaving, questioned him and released him from the scene without incident or formal finding of wrongdoing.
3. First-offense DWI at Highway 64 West and Highway 65 North. Officers responded to an accident near Walmart at about 2 a.m. on Sunday and arrested 23-year-old Julio Armando Ortega on suspicion of DWI. Ortega was cited for the offense after registering a breath alcohol content of .10 and was released to a sober driver.
4. Shoplifting at 1155 Skyline Drive (Walmart). Officers responded to assist Walmart loss prevention personnel and off-duty CPD officers Friday evening after 46-year-old Melvin D. Perkins was seen allegedly shoplifting with the help of a 13-year-old girl. Both were cited for shoplifting.
