A woman who had been wanted for the beating and stabbing of a Twin Groves man has been found dead in Jacksonville.
According to Pulaski County Coroner Garland Camper, 41-year-old Rhonda R. Greer was pronounced dead in her room at a hotel off T.P. White Drive at 12:40 Tuesday afternoon.
"Mrs. Greer had apparently entered the hotel sometime the previous night," Camper said. "It appears at this time that she took her own life. There were items at the scene that suggested this may have been a suicide, but her body was transported to the State Crime Lab for additional information."
Camper said that though other possibilities have not been ruled out, evidence in the room indicated that Greer had consumed what proved to be a lethal quantity of drugs and alcohol.
Greer had been wanted for questioning by Faulkner County authorities since the night of March 24, when she allegedly bludgeoned a man with a crowbar and stabbed him three times with a knife at the man’s home off Pool Lane near Twin Groves. Investigators said that it appeared that she may have lain in wait inside the home for some time before ambushing the man as he investigated a strange noise.
The man was able to fend off Greer, he told investigators, gaining control of the crowbar and knife and throwing them onto the roof of his residence as the course of the altercation took the two outside. Greer drove away in the man’s truck, which was discovered a short distance away, but Faulkner County authorities couldn’t locate her. The man went to a neighbor’s home for help and was taken to Conway Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for several serious but non-life-threatening wounds and released.
According to a Jacksonville Police Department incident report, Greer checked into the hotel at about 6:30 p.m. on Monday and was to check out on Tuesday. She was found in bed by a housekeeper, who contacted her manager and called 9-1-1 when she couldn’t wake the woman.
