The fiancee of the victim in Thursday’s shooting in downtown Conway admitted to KATV that she had previously had a "romantic fling" with the accused shooter, Cortez Waller. DeRanda Carter said Childress, who died at Conway Regional Medical Center Thursday after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, saw Waller driving around and followed him to the Conway Police Department.

Carter said Childress was gunned down in the station’s Front Street parking lot as his fiancee and small children watched.

"The kids were in the car; they saw it," Carter said. "I don’t know how they’re going to take it. They were screaming. They didn’t know what was going on.

"I tried to pick him up, but he wouldn’t move. There was blood everywhere."

Carter’s mother, Delana Head, posted the message "Christopher Micheal Childress (1978-2010) ILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU SON!!" to her Facebook page early Friday morning.

Conway police will have more information available later this morning.
