A Conway residence was completely destroyed Monday by an early-morning fire that began on the back porch.

The Conway Fire Department responded to a structure fire at about 12:30 a.m. at 4855 Canal Place in west Conway. Firefighters said the blaze could be seen after turning the corner outside the station off Prince Street.

According to fire department officials, the fire quickly spread from the back porch to the attic, causing the roof to partially collapse early on. Fire department personnel cleared the scene at 4:05 a.m. Officials deemed the property a complete loss.

The renter of the home was able to safely evacuate and call 911.

Conway Fire Deparment Chief Kenny Wiedower is still investigating the cause of the fire, but did confirm that the back porch was the point of origin for the blaze.
