The 98th St. Joseph School Bazaar was held over the weekend with several events to raise money for the school.
The Bazaar included box lunches and an "Old Fashioned Midway" on Friday before the silent and live auctions and raffle drawing Saturday night.
The winner of this year’s raffle prize, a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, was 74-year-old Frank Willenburg of St. Vincent. An HP computer package and $250 were the second and third-place prizes.
Despite Friday’s rainy weather, residents braved the muggy conditions for games, the ham and bacon stand and Bingo at this year’s Midway. A family-style dinner of spaghetti, fried chicken and sides was also held before the carnival began.
Nearly 200 items were available for bids during Saturday’s live and silent auctions. This year’s items included everything from homemade goods to packages from local businesses to celebrity memorabilia.
An electric guitar signed by Taylor Swift, a drum head signed by the Rolling Stones and a Michael Jackson "Thriller" autographed record, as well as entertainment and beauty packages and getaways were available in the silent auction.
Live auction items included "his and her" gym parking spaces for the school’s athletic events, a murder mystery dinner for 12 and several local packages.
"We had an amazing fundraiser this year," Lori Ross said. "We had a record number of raffle tickets sold. This year was just unbelievable."
The Bazaar is the school’s largest fundraiser of the year. Ticket sales for the raffle drawing, carnival games, silent and live auction bids, box lunches and the family-style dinner sales all go to the operation of the school.
