Detectives from the Faulkner County Major Crimes Unit are investigating a stabbing death in the Greenbrier area.

Lt. Matt Rice of the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office said detectives are investigating the death of Michelle Asher, 16 D Fox Run Lane, Greenbrier, and they are treating the case as a homicide.

Rice said Asher, 26, was found dead in her back yard early Saturday morning. She was found by a family friend, according to Faulkner County Coroner Patrick Moore.

Moore said preliminarily reports indicate Asher died from excessive bleeding as the result of multiple stab wounds to the torso. Moore pronounced her dead at 9:04 a.m.

Asher's family said she had been missing for about 24 hours, when a family friend went to the residence and found her body lying in the back yard, according to Moore. The friend notified authorities.

Rice said investigators have a suspect, but he would not say whether that person was in custody or if investigators had any leads.

Asher's body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy, and Moore said he anticipates an initial report by Monday afternoon.

As of press time, investigators hadn't released any information about the suspect.

Moore said the family is making arrangements with Bishop Griffin Funeral Home in Greenbrier.

Asher is the daughter of Gary and Lori Cummings of Greenbrier.
