Thanksgiving Comes Gradually

By Verna Lee Hinegardner

Thanksgiving comes a little at a time

not gushing like a sudden summer storm.

Sweet healing warmth comes climbing up my spine

releasing peace and love — and I am warm.

Thanksgiving

tamps gratitude

down deep

within my heart.

Now, limbered by God’s lubricating love.

I reach for friends and family again

and wonder why I waited one whole year.

Thanksgiving comes a little at a time.
