A UCA student was one of two females arrested following a string of thefts on the University of Central Arkansas campus.

Kianna Danielle Austin, 20, and Jennifer Marie Jackson, 19, were arrested for residential burglary and theft of property Thursday.

Jackson is currently enrolled at UCA. Austin has previously attended the university.

According to UCA Police Department Public Information Officer Arch Jones, two crime alerts were sent to students, faculty and staff after 11 laptop computers, an Apple iPod and a gaming system were reported stolen over a two-day period on campus. The first alert was sent at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday. Jones said, thanks to information from the UCA community, police had someone apprehended within two hours of sending the alert.

Jones said $4,700 worth of the stolen items has been recovered. The items were taken from five residence halls, State Residential College, Carmichael Hall, Conway Hall, Baridon Hall and New Hall.

Jones said the string of thefts were crimes of opportunity and did not involve any forced entry.

Jones encouraged students to lock their doors when leaving their rooms. He also stressed that students, faculty and staff should not leave valuables unattended on campus.
