Faulkner County educators are keen observers when it comes to the needs of area children.
Because of their knowledge and dedication to the betterment of life for local students, they are yearly entrusted with the funds generated from the Log Cabin Democrat’s holiday fundraising and assistance program, the Community Christmas Card.
For a donation of at least $1, a participant’s name, or the name of their choosing, is added to a list that is published in the Christmas Day edition of the Log Cabin.
Last year’s effort surpassed previous efforts, despite a lackluster economy.
The Community Christmas Card raised more than $23,000. Every "red cent" was forwarded to county school counselors, who hold the funds for arising needs.
Be it a holiday or birthday gift, a pair of shoes, a dental appointment, medicine, glasses or clothes, the Community Christmas Card funds are designated for the specific and immediate need of an area child.
"People would be surprised at how far their dollar goes," Cheryl Bramlett, RN at Conway High School-West said.
The high school has designated their portion, "the student assistant account."
When a teacher or other school staff member observes a problem or a need, counselors provide the monetary means to fill that need.
"Sometimes a family might not have full coverage on their insurance and their child needs to go to the dentist. They may be in a tight financial spot, and we try to help them there," Bramlett said.

"The Community Christmas Card project is such a worthy project. Our Faulkner County schools count on this money each year to help provide assistance to children in need. We appreciate the cooperation from the schools in this joint effort and feel fortunate that we can help give back to our community by giving and facilitating this project," Cynthia Crabb, Log Cabin business manager, said.
