Roses Among Thorns
Roses Among Thorns held their monthly Tea on Nov. 17 at Springhill Baptist Church Family Life Center. Our theme for this month’s tea was "Thankful Blessings". Our scripture was Psalm 92:1 "It is good to give thanks to the Lord". The decorations were done by Terry Clifton. Each table was decorated with the fall theme and colors and had a horn of plenty, pumpkins, squash and candles centered on a paisley scarf. Each place setting had a framed copy of Psalm 100:4-5 and a copy of the November newsletter in the fall colors for each Rose to take home. The entry table was decorated in the fall motif with a thanksgiving plate and floral arrangement as well. Fresh roses were provided by Ye Olde Daisy Shop.
Linda Dickey welcomed new member Michelle Gilmore and Frances Springstead. She prayed before the meal which was provided and prepared by Darlene Hall. Darlene has volunteered to take over as coordinator of our food service program. We are so thankful for her generosity. Our menu this month was chicken sage dressing, sweet potatoes, salad with dressing, cinnamon scones w/cream cheese and cranberries. Bread pudding with rum sauce was served for dessert. Cranberry tea was also provided.
Linda introduced all of our volunteers that served this month and presented them each with a gift. The servers were Peggy Russ, Judy Jones, Jeanette Belding, Patricia Moix, Martha Wilcox, Joyce Younes, Meredith Thrash, Beverly Mahan and Darlene Hall.
Linda read a Thanksgiving poem. She also handed out a lot of gifts and several door prizes. She also read a story of a Thanksgiving Blessing. She encouraged us all to thank God for the thorns in our lives because they make our roses more precious.
Linda announced a Christmas shopping trip coming up on Dec. 7.
The program was given by Marilyn Mathis. She gave an inspirational devotion titles "Thanks Be to God" taken from 2 Corinthians 2:14-17. She shared how she keeps a Thanksgiving journal and how this has changed her life.
Our next regular meeting will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15. Each one attending needs to bring a $5 gift to exchange. If you or any women you know who has cancer or is a survivor and would be interested in attending, please contact Linda Dickey to reserve your seat at 501-679-2931 or 501-472-1120.
