A "major defense contractor" has toured Central Arkansas and is considering two sites east of Vilonia and a site east of Maumelle for a $25-million plant that would employ about 300 people, Mayor Bill Wright said.

Wright recently gave a presentation on Conway and the surrounding area to company officials and flew over central Arkansas in a helicopter with them.

He said officials would not reveal the name of their corporation, only that it manufactures military defense rockets. Even Gov. Bill Clinton did not know the firm’s name, the mayor said.
