The anticipated Cinemark Towne Centre movie theater will open its doors at 201 Skyline Drive in Conway to the general public Dec. 10.

Developers will hold a grand opening preview event at 6 p.m.  Dec. 9 for invited guests in possession of a golden ticket.

The golden VIP tickets are available at the Log Cabin Democrat, located at 1058 Front St., where two tickets will be given for a donation of at least $10 to the Community Christmas Card project, which benefits area students in need.

Tickets will also be available at the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce, located at 900 Oak St., where two will be given with the donation of a new child’s coat or toy for Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.

The theater complex houses 12 screens, stadium seating and is, according to James Meredith, vice president of marketing and communications for Cinemark, 100 percent digital.

"One theater is an XD auditorium. Those are extremely popular across the country," Meredith said.

Frank Gonzales, marketing manager, described the auditorium as having a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling screen with a custom sound system and digital projection capable of showing any 2D or 3D movie.

According to Gonzales, six of the 12 screens are equipped for Real D-3D viewing.

"Over the last 10 years, the number one question I’ve heard from Conway residents is, ‘When are we getting a new movie theatre?’ I’m so happy that I can finally answer, ‘Dec. 9, 2010’," said Brad Lacy, president and CEO of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce. "The technology and quality of the theater will prove to be worth the wait."

Gonzales said that the first movie to be viewed in the XD auditorium is "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader 3D."

Tickets at both the Log Cabin office and the Chamber are limited, and will be given based on first come, first served.

Refreshments will be provided at Thursday’s event, and passes are required for admittance.

Meredith said organizers were still unsure of the movies to be offered at the preview event, but some will be new releases.
