The 3,590 names listed in today’s Log Cabin Democrat on pages 7A-11A are the names of those who participated in our annual charitable program, the Community Christmas Card.

They are the team of community members that generated the $18,896 to be designated to meeting the needs of less fortunate school-age children in Faulkner County.

At the close of the yearly fundraising effort, organizers divide the sum and entrust it to Faulkner County school counselors who then use throughout the year to provide a variety of services to students who would have otherwise gone without.

New or repaired glasses, doctor visits, dental exams, medicine, shoes, coats, summer clothes and even an electricity bill have been afforded thanks to past donors.

A generous donation by a brother and sister in honor of each other on Thursday pushed the 2010 total funds raised from around $14,800 to today’s new total of $18,896.

Waylon Harris, Log Cabin Editor, said, "It’s good to see that so many in our community care about our local children. It’s a true testament to our community’s strength and solidarity. Even in a tough economy, the folks of Conway and Faulkner County stepped up, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you."

Participants whose names appear today represent the donation of $1 or more toward the Community Christmas Card.

Organizers announced yesterday that they will extend the opportunity to be a part of the Community Christmas Card until the first of next year.

Any who donate to the cause between now and New Year’s Eve will see their names added to the list, which will be printed again on New Year’s Day.

Donations are accepted at the Log Cabin Democrat office at 1058 Front St., or by mailing them to Community Christmas Card, P.O. Box 696, Conway AR, 72033, or donate online through PayPal at
