While many residents will be ringing in the new year at parties with family and friends, the Conway Police Department will be out in full force hoping to curb drunk driving and save lives.
According to Lt. Susan Wilson, Conway police will be out during the New Year’s holiday as part of the DWI task force.
Law enforcement agencies around Faulkner County and throughout the state will continue their annual “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.” winter holiday crackdown throughout the weekend.
The national enforcement crackdown began Dec. 15 and continues through Jan. 3.
Wilson warned against driving drunk and encouraged residents to have a designated driver if drinking was part of holiday celebrations. If a designated driver is not available, residents are urged to stay where they are.
In 2009, 168 of the 585 traffic fatalities in Arkansas were due to alcohol-impaired driving. It is illegal in the state of Arkansas to drive with a blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher.
