MALVERN — The St. Joseph teams split a pair of games against Magnet Cove on Friday night.

The Bulldogs won the boys game 63-48. They led 28-21 at halftime before ending the third quarter on a 20-6 run.

"We had a great start (leading 19-3 after the first quarter) and played with a lot of intensity on the defensive end," said coach Brent Bruich, whose Bulldogs improved to 17-7 overall and 6-4 in 5-2A Conference play. "But, I was disappointed that we had a letdown in the second quarter and allowed them to get back in it. Fortunately for us, we had a solid third quarter, and it didn’t come back to bite us."

Andrew Beck led the way with 16 points and five assists. Matt Snider and Tyler Jones had 14 points each, with Snider also grabbing five rebounds. Cole Schichtl finished with six points and four rebounds.

Magnet Cove used a strong second quarter and held on late to take a 35-32 win in the girls game.

After leading 7-2 heading into the second period, Magnet Cove  took a 22-6 lead into halftime. However, the Lady Bulldogs (11-13, 3-7) fought back to take a 31-30 lead in the third but were unable to hang on.

"We just got too far behind in the first half," St. Joseph coach Chris Kordsmeier said. "Magnet Cove just made a few more plays. We had a great effort in the second half, but we just need to work on putting the whole game together."

Heather Moix led with a double-double performance of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Amy Schichtl added eight points, five boards and four assists.

St. Joseph won the junior girls game 30-18.

Meagan Briggler led with 11 points. Anna Mayor had 10 points and five rebounds. Rachel Briggler chipped in five points, five assists and four steals, while Madison Seiter finished with four points and six rebounds.
