The University of Central Arkansas’ Community School of Music (CSM) is currently taking registration for two summer Music Camps and for both group and private music classes. 

Mail-in or internet registration is available at uca.edu/csm, and current students may register by phone. Walk-in registration will be held Monday-Wednesday in the UCA Snow Fine Arts Center, room 203. Office hours are Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. During the summer, lessons are taught on a semester basis with allowances being made for vacation time. Summer I is four weeks: June 6-July 1. Summer II is six weeks, July 5-Aug. 12.

The third annual Summer Strings Camp will be held Aug. 1-6 for both commuting students and campers staying on-campus through the week. Deadline to register without a late fee is July 8. The camp is for students in grades 1-12 who play violin, viola, cello or string bass. Directors of the camp are Mike and Susan Burkepile and they will be assisted by Roshell Cobb and Casey Buck.

The fourth annual Rock Camp will be held June 27-July 1. A day camp for students ages 12-18 who play electric guitar or bass, drums, or sing. Students will rehearse daily from 9 a.m.-noon. Camp director is Smokey Emerson. 

The Little Mozart Pre-Piano Class for children entering grades K-3 will be held Tuesday, 4:30-5 p.m., from May 24-June 28. This is an introduction to the keyboard and a way to determine readiness for piano lessons. This class will begins earlier than our other classes and parents should register their children as soon as possible. 

New classes for piano and guitar are offered this summer. Beginner Guitar Class for Kids will meet for six weeks beginning July 5 on Tuesdays from 5-5:45 p.m. Students age 8-15 will learn to read notes and guitar tablature and will be able to play a number of familiar tunes. The Beginner Guitar Class for Adults will meet for ten weeks on Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m., beginning June 7. Both classes will be taught by Smokey Emerson.  

Beginner Piano for Adults, ages 16-55, and Piano for Late Bloomers, age 55 and up, will be taught by Lynnette Stanley. Eight weeks of classes will be held, Monday afternoons and evenings. Students taking group classes this summer may enroll in private lessons in the fall.

Private instruction is offered in piano, voice, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and most band and orchestral instruments. A total of 10 weeks of lessons is possible during the summer, four in Summer I and six in Summer II. Tuition costs vary, according to the level of the instructor and are listed on our website at uca.edu/csm, where you can also find more details and registration forms.
