J. W. Calaway, owner and operator of the Calaway Drug Company, will sponsor a baseball team in Conway this summer, it was announced today. Funds to buy uniforms have also been secured. Players are being recruited and it is expected the team will open its season on Sunday, May 31. The manager has not been named.
Eugene Fraser, captain of this year’s championship Arkansas State College team; Hall King and A. J. Carter, two other former Teachers College players, and Joe D. ("Smokey") Smith, have agreed to play with Calaway’s team.

Graduating exercises were held at Vilonia High School last Friday night. The baccalaureate was held the preceding Sunday. Both services were in the school auditorium. Pearline Johnson was valedictorian of the 1961 class and Elsie Lea Maynard Pearce the salutatorian.
Miss Johnson is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Johnson. Miss Pearce is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Maynard.

Gary DuVall, coordinator of the Continuum of Services program at the Conway Human Development Center, was recently named recipient of the 1986 Counseling Associates Inc. Mental Health Award.
DuVall is a former member of the Counseling Associates Inc. board of directors. He was named Outstanding State Employee in 1985.

Choosing to Excel youth services coordinator Kristi Langemeier and Excel board member Cheryl Lide presented Excel Upward director Cheryl Potter and board member Cindy Moody with a $500 check. The money was allocated by the Quorum Court for Excel, who presented it to the Excel Upward program, which recently incorporated as a separate non-profit organization in the Vilonia schools.
