Price Dooley, a professor of political science at the University of Central Arkansas, has announced his candidacy for the Arkansas House District 70, which represents most of west Conway.

A formal campaign kickoff is set for 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Hilton Garden Inn, 805 Amity Road. The public is invited.

In May, Dooley began a listening tour to better understand Conway’s needs.

"One of the things I found was that people wanted to be empowered, they wanted their tax burden reduced, and they wanted good jobs for Arkansas and west Conway," Dooley said. "We can do this by focusing on local issues. We will improve education, work with business, and create jobs."

Dooley has been a Conway resident for seven years. He obtained his Ph.D. in public policy from the University of Arkansas. His wife Tess is the Senior ERISA Attorney for Windstream Corporation. They attend First Assembly of God in Morrilton.

The Republican primary is May 22, 2012. Early voting begins May 9.
