A day after she won her third straight Class 7A state girls golf championship and a week after helping a United States Junior Amateur team retain the Solheim Cup, Conway's Summar Roachell committed to play golf at the University of Arkansas.

Roachell, a junior at Conway High who won the Arkansas Women's Golf Association Match Play championship at age 13 and who went 2-1 in the Solheim Cup matches against a European all-star team, made announcement Wednesday before the Conway Kiwanis Club. She is rated as one of the top junior women's players in the nation.

She said UA coaches Shauna Estes-Taylor and Mike Adams were a major factor in the decision.

"They (the UA coaches) are the best around," she said. "They are there for all their players. They are not just there for them during the season. They are there for them after. Shauna was in one of her player's weddings a couple of weeks ago. She's caddied for her players on tour. Mike has been with all his players throughout, still helps them today.

"That was a very important thing in choosing — that, even when I'm done with college, they would still be there for me.

"I've grown up as a Razorback fan and having the opportunity to play for the Razorbacks in my home state, I just couldn't pass that up."

Roachell will play in the Overall High School golf tournament Oct. 13 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock.
