VILONIA — It’s a tradition at the Vilonia School District — students converge on the senior citizens center each year to help with the Thanksgiving feast.
More than 100 were in attendance Thursday to eat at the annual event, which is sponsored by the Vilonia Lions Club, a tradition that has been followed for at least 16 years. That many or more were there serving and making sure everyone had a good time.
The Vilonia Primary Melodies, 35 fourth-graders, belted out patriotic tunes and Thanksgiving melodies under the leadership of music teacher Geneva Day.
Lions Club members cooked. Members of the Food and Nutrition Class and Family and Consumer Science Class, under teacher Stephanie Ramsey, made about 30 pies and served the meals and drinks. The giving continued outside the walls of the center. The high school band delivered about 75 meals to shut-ins.
