A steady rain discouraged some shoppers from going store to store for Shop Small Saturday, but Roberta Coyne, owner of Main Street Bakery in downtown Conway said her cupcakes were selling well.

Husband Jim Coyne was there to assist and pour a free cup of tea for customers.

In addition to bakery items, Coyne’s shop features artworks by local artists, local honey and preserves, Christmas stockings and ornaments and jewelry of her own design.

Saturday was the second "Small Business Saturday," a national initiative to support local businesses on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.

American Express, one of the major proponents of the shopping event, predicted that 89 million customers across the country would "shop small."
