Whit Jones, a native Arkansan and veteran journalist, has been named managing editor of the Log Cabin Democrat.

Publisher Rick Fahr made the announcement Tuesday.

Jones has some 30 years of media experience, including positions at newspapers in Arkansas, Texas and Missouri. He most recently operated a news and politics web- site in Central Arkansas.

"We are excited to have someone of Whit’s distinction join our staff," Fahr said. "Whit’s reputation as a hard-nosed reporter and experienced editor is well known across the state. He will bring a veteran’s knowledge to our staff, and we look forward to his great work."

Jones said he has long respected the tradition of the Log Cabin Democrat.

"This has been recognized as one of the exemplary community newspapers in Arkansas for as long as I can recall," he said. "Our goal is to enhance that tradition. We fully understand that we do not gain the community’s respect, we earn it."

Jones has a son, Fulmer, who is a graduate of Hendrix College.
