The local election season is about to ramp up as the filing period opens for Faulkner County candidates.

Filing begins at noon today at the county clerk’s office for Democratic and Republican hopefuls and continues through noon Thursday, March 1. Candidates may file from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and again Monday through Wednesday.

May 1 is the deadline for independent candidates to file for county offices. Municipal candidates have until May 21 to file.

Early and absentee voting for the May 22 primary election will be held May 7-21. Hours are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays.  

The deadline to register to vote is April 23, and May 18 is the deadline for voters to transfer registrations between counties. 

Polls will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on primary election day. 

The general primary runoff election date is June 12.

The primary election for municipal candidates is Aug. 14.

The county school board election is Sept. 18 and any runoff races will be decided on Oct. 9.

The 2012 general election is Nov. 6 and the runoff dates is Nov 27.
