A group of friends and neighbors of Mrs. G. M. Walthall gave a surprise covered dish luncheon at her home Monday, celebrating her eighty-fourth birthday. Those attending were Mesdames Mabel E. Jones, Judson Goad, I. G. Williams, M. D. Scales, J. C. Higgs, H. P. Barham, S. A. Sims, A. H. Malone and Miss Lorene Bogardus. In the afternoon a string quartet composed of Mesdames Hardin, Bivins, Rufus Paul and Miss Florence Hardin entertained with music. Mrs. Walthall received many beautiful flowers and gifts.

Mark Allen Johnson, six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Johnson, is recovering at his parents’ home from an illness diagnosed as scarlet fever. The youngster was kept out of school this week and parents of children with whom he had come in contact at the First Baptist Church Sunday school and Sallie Cone Elementary School were notified. They took precautionary steps to prevent spread of the disease. Mark Allen is under the care of a Little Rock physician. His sister, Jacqueline, is a fourth grader at Sallie Cone. The boy is being kept home this week. His fever subsided Tuesday, the elder Johnson said today. The youngster became ill last Sunday.

Paul and Danna Jones of Conway are parents of a son, Robert Paul, born Friday (Feb. 20, 1987) at Doctors Hospital. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces. The couple also have another son, Dennis, 3. Grandparents are John and Jo Ann Hurley and Margaret A. Jones, all of Conway, and Virgil Jones of Morrilton. Great-grandparents are Howard and Elsie Jacoway of North Little Rock.

Carol Paparic, a resident of Conway and a former employee of first National Bank (Now Regions Bank) of Conway, has been promoted to assistant vice president of Pinnacle Bank in Little Rock. A St. Louis native with over 30 years of banking experience, she completed coursework through the American Institute of Banking, and has also worked for First Commercial Bank in Little Rock.
