Wesley Pruitt, a Conway native who works for Hewlitt Packard, formally announced his bid for a seat on the Conway City Council.
Pruitt will seek the Ward 2, Position 1 seat currently held by Mark Vaught.
Vaught is a Republican candidate for Faulkner County clerk. He will challenge County Clerk Melinda Reynolds, a Democrat, in the November general election.
Pruitt, 31, is a graduate of Conway High School. He attended the University of Central Arkansas and worked for the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce as membership director. He is a sales specialist for Hewlitt Packard.
"This is something I have always wanted to do," Pruitt said of his candidacy. "Working at the chamber allowed me to see how government works together."
Pruitt, who said he has seen Conway "explode with development" over the past 10 years, said he is an advocate of a citywide parks network.
"I am a father of four kids," he said. "I know that areas like the parks have come under fire, but families like mine cherish them, and they make Conway special."
Pruitt and his wife, Casey, are expecting a fifth child.
Council positions are nonpartisan. The filing period for municipal candidates in Conway begins Wednesday, May 2.
