After an astounding success of the first two years, the 2012 season of the Conway Community Band will begin at 7 p.m. Monday with an organizational meeting in the Conway High School West band room.

Ricky Brooks, Director of Bands at the University of Central Arkansas and Tim Cunningham, High School Band Director at Conway West, are the co-directors of the community band.

Rehearsals will begin at 7 p.m. on May 7 and continue each Monday night in May and June.

After every third rehearsal, there will be a concert.

Concerts will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18; Friday, June 8; and Friday, June 29 at the Kris Allen Stage in Simon Park in Downtown Conway.

The purpose and mission of the Conway Community Band is to afford any individual, regardless of age or income, who previously or currently plays a band instrument, an outlet to perform in rehearsal and public performance, to foster community spirit through free public concerts in a family-oriented environment, and to promote the enjoyment of music for the people of Conway and surrounding communities.

The community band is sponsored by the Downtown Partnership, Kim Williams, director.

Through the assistance of the Downtown Partnership, the community band receives support through several local corporate sponsors including the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce and the Log Cabin Democrat.

The band had the honor to perform at the opening session of the Arkansas Bandmasters Convention at the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock last July.
