UCA’s Baum Gallery of Fine Arts was the site of the "Art in Architecture: Historic Homes of Conway" art exhibit and awards ceremony on May 13th.

The competition was initiated in 2006 with a grant from the Department of Arkansas Heritage as part of Arkansas Heritage Month which is celebrated in May.

Barbara Satterfield extended a warm welcome to students, teachers, family and guests.

The Old Conway Preservation Society and the Faulkner County Historical Society were recognized as sponsors of the program which is centered on historic preservation and the artistic expression of the Faulkner County communities’ children.

Nancy Mitchell recognized the participating teachers and their schools and was assisted by Michael Mitchell in presenting Achievement Award certificates and place ribbons to student competition winners.

Participating teachers were Jo Claire Dodson, The Art School; Kim Carmichael, Conway Christian Elementary School; Shelly Medlock, Conway Christian Junior and Senior High School; Becky Thornton, Carl Stuart Middle School; Chris Massingill, Conway High School East; Renee Thrash, Ellen Smith Elementary; Beverly Isacksen, Florence Mattison Elementary; Stacy Hammons, Jim Stone Elementary; William Fisher, Simon Intermediate; Sally Allinder, Theodore Jones Elementary; Allison Bowen, Woodrow Cummins; Penny Bassham, St. Joseph Catholic Schools; Karen Hall, Wooster Elementary; Greg Hogan, Vilonia Junior High; Tricia Gill, Conway High West Campus, Photography; and Debbie Melendez, Home School.

The artwork will be on display in the Conway City Hall Gallery from May 22 through Sept. 29. The exhibit is free and open to the public. This year’s competition winners are:
