Officials with the Conway Police Department confirmed the drowning of a 2-year-old child at Westbury Park Apartments on Nutter Chapel Road Friday morning.
LaTresha Woodruff, public information officer with CPD, said investigators are working to determine how two male children, ages 2 and 3, escaped from the apartment.
Woodruff said a woman responsible for watching the children was the mother of the 3-year-old and the girlfriend of the father of the 2-year-old.
Woodruff said the woman told police "she fell asleep and the children must have gotten out of the apartment at that time."
A call was placed to 9-1-1 around 11 a.m. after a maintenance man observed the two children in the swimming pool unattended.
Woodruff said the apartment manager dove into the pool to rescue the children and administered CPR to the 2-year-old until emergency personnel arrived before that child was transported by ambulance to Conway Regional Medical Center.
The child was pronounced dead at the hospital. Woodruff said the 3-year-old is “fine, physically.”
