Harkrider in Conway is closed between Sixth and Bruce as crews work a natural gas leak. More information coming as it is available.

UPDATE: A natural gas leak from a 2 inch line closed down a portion of Harkrider Street between Bruce and Sixth streets Thursday morning.

"The smell of gas was strong," said Conway City Engineer Ronnie Hall, who was traveling down Harkrider and was detoured around the leak.

The street reopened at 12:30 p.m., Hall said.

The Conway Fire Department received a call that gas was leaking from the line at 380 Harkrider St. at  9:43 a.m., said Mike Winter, assistant fire chief. The fire and police departments responded.

CenterPoint Energy fixed the leak in about an hour and a half, spokeswoman Alicia Dixon. The leak started when a man who was bush hogging in the area hit a meter station, she said. No customer was using the meter and no one was in danger, Dixon said.

No one was injured or evacuated from the area, Winters said. No one became ill because of the leak, he said.
