LITTLE ROCK (AP) — The freezing rain that is blanketing central Arkansas is causing power outages.
Entergy Arkansas reports more than 28,000 customers without power Tuesday, including 9,000 that happened in the span of 30 minutes.
About 9,000 customers are out in Pulaski County and about 8,000 in Garland County. About 2,500 customers are dark in Clark and Hot Spring counties. About 2,000 customers are out in Saline County.
Several hundred customers of First Electric Cooperative are out, mainly in Saline County.
About 200 customers of South Central Arkansas Electric Cooperative also lost power. Those customers are in Clark, Hot Spring and Nevada counties.
The National Weather Service says the rain is forecast to turn to snow in central Arkansas.
Road conditions in western Arkansas vary from snowy to slushy to icy conditions.
