The branches, ornaments and lights for Conway’s 54-foot Christmas tree are expected to arrive sometime today.

Two Get Lit, LLC employees arrived in a truck at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday with the steel pieces to construct the frame of the tree on top of the fountain at Rogers Plaza in downtown Conway.

Nate Robinson, Get Lit LLC’s creative director, is in charge of coordinating the construction. Arriving in the pouring rain on Thursday, he said, the goal is to finish putting up the tree’s skeleton and install a few branches by the end of the day, weather permitting.

"The rain won’t impede us getting done on time," Robinson said. "It will just slow us down a bit."

At 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the Physical Plant and Get Lit were installing the seventh level of steel to the tree’s skeleton.

Robinson said if he didn’t finish installing the skeleton by the end of the night, it would be finished in the early morning.

A group of Physical Plant and Parks and Recreation employees are working alongside Get Lit to learn how to assemble the tree for future Christmases.

Although there are only two Get Lit employees currently working at the site, Robinson said he will bring on as many as needed to get the job done on time.

Robinson said it’s important for Get Lit to have staff on the ground during the initial assembly, so city employees can see it, feel it and ask any necessary questions.

The Physical Plant will be given an instruction guide to aid with the assembly next year, and can always call Get Lit, Robinson said, if they have any questions.

Tony Harrington, Physical Plant director, said he’s a little uneasy about climbing the 54-foot ladder built within the frame of the tree, but says the design concept is simple and efficient.

"It seems pretty easy once we learn how to do it," he said. "Hopefully we’ll be able to get the skeleton up by the end of the day."
