For the person who has everything this season, consider a gift to the Community Christmas Card in his or her honor.

The Community Christmas Card is a list of names appearing in the Dec. 25 edition of the Log Cabin Democrat.

The names listed in the "card" belong to community members who have donated to, or have received the gift of donation to a fundraiser facilitated by the Log Cabin that directly meets the needs of young students.

For the contribution of $1 or more, the donor’s name or the name of their choosing is added to the special section of the newspaper.

At the close of collection, the fund which has in recent years totaled more than $20,000, is divided equally among area school counselors.

The counselors are entrusted to use their portion of the Community Christmas Card fund to meet the various needs of the students that they come in contact with.

Often times a teacher or a school nurse alerts a counselor to a child who has broken his or her glasses or has shown up on a cold day without a warm coat.

The need might be a dentist appointment to alleviate pain from a toothache that has kept a student from focusing in class.

Needs may be medical, physical or environmental.

The fund for students has bought food, clothing and even turned electricity back on at a student’s home.

The program is unique in that all money collected by the Community Christmas Card goes directly to students.

Organizers are now collecting names and donations in honor of Faulkner County’s students in need.

To be included in the card and project, make donations by mail, online or at the Log Cabin office.

Donations may be sent to Community Christmas Card, P.O. Box 969, Conway AR 72033, online at, or at the Log Cabin office at 1111 Main Street, Suite 102 in Federal Plaza in Conway.
