A Conway man was killed Saturday morning when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, police said.
Shafial Mason, 24, was northbound on Salem Road, between Smoking Oaks and Hippo Drive, when he lost control of his 2009 Nissan Sentra, which left the east side of the road, and struck a tree on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Officers responded to the accident around 3:15 a.m.
Conway police spokesperson La Tresha Woodruff said responding officers did not believe alcohol was a cause of the accident. The accident report states no tests — blood, breath, urine or toxicology — were required.
Deanna Ott, of the Central Baptist College public relations office, confirmed Mason was a member of the univeristy’s men’s soccer team.
According to Arkansas State Police fatal crash summaries, there have been 436 other fatal crashes on Arkansas roads this year.
