Night lane closures on Interstate 40 near Mayflower begin Wednesday, according to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

Crews are preparing to widen Interstate 40 between Palarm Creek, located near the Pulaski/Faulkner County line and Highway 365, located near the Morgan/Maumelle exit.

The work will require the installation of a temporary concrete wall.

During its installation, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

The first lane closure will be Wednesday and Thursday.

The westbound inside lane will be closed between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. both days.

Beginning Thursday evening at 7 p.m., the inside lane will be closed in each direction until 5 a.m.

The closures are expected to last for two weeks, except for weekend nights.

Closures will occur between mile markers 137 and 142.

Two lanes of traffic will resume during daytime hours within the work zone.

When the contract is complete, five miles of Interstate 40 will have been widened from two to three lanes in each direction.

The $21.4 million project is estimated to be complete this summer, according to the AHTD.

Motorists are urged to use caution traveling through highway work zones.
