Conway Police Chief AJ Gary is inviting the community to join him for coffee Thursday morning.

The Conway Police Department is kicking off a new series called Coffee with the Chief as a way to collect feedback from the community.

Every three years, the CPD sends out a survey as part of their accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.

Chief Gary said Coffee with the Chief is a more personal and up-to-date way to talk to the community about main concerns.

"I want to know if they’re seeing enough patrols in their area, or if they see any issue that they’d like us to spend more time addressing," he said.

The community will generate the conversation, Gary said.

Coffee with the Chief won’t be like when Gary speaks to civic groups in the community, he said, telling them what the department is doing and what programs they have.

"I really want to hear from the citizens," he said. "I want it to be more interactive."

The Patio Cafe at 1156 Front Street is hosting the first Coffee with the Chief Thursday morning at 7.

"We are very excited to have [CPD] here and to have them choose our coffee house for the first one," said Lisa Covington, co-owner of The Patio Cafe with husband Casey.

The Patio Cafe’s house brew coffee will be free for those who attend Coffee with the Chief, Covington said.

Chief Gary will be available to discuss issues and concerns for about 45 minutes to an hour.

The next Coffee with the Chief has not yet been scheduled, but Chief Gary said he plans to meet with the community each quarter.

The series is open to the public. All are invited to attend.
