The Conway Chamber of Commerce will be holding a sort of preview event for the planned Central Landing and Lewis Crossing shopping centers at 6:30 tonight at the Centennial Valley country club’s special events center.
Speakers representing the developers of the two shopping centers are expected to speak, and some stores will be confirmed. There will also be time for questions.
Sam’s Club will be coming in at Lewis Crossing, along with an Academy Sports store. Plans show space for about a dozen tenants at Lewis Crossing, which will be built south of Dave Ward Drive just east of I-40.
Other stores have been rumored for the shopping centers, and for a time in June a website for developer Jim Wilson & Associates named almost 40 stores as tenants of Central Landing including Dillard’s, Books-a-Million, White House Black Market, Five Guys restaurant and Ann Taylor Loft. After the list was published that page was taken down, and the developer hasn’t officially confirmed these tenants, but it’s likely that some will be confirmed tonight.
The contract with Central Landing’s developer obligates the city to build roads that, in addition to providing access to the shopping center, will help east-west connectivity in the city and hopefully solve the problems of Oak Street congestion. To build these roads requires a new revenue stream, and City Hall and the Conway City Council have decided that a bond rededication to obligate an 1/8 cent city sales tax from its current 2021 "sunset" date to 2044 is the best way to get the money. The rededication will have to be approved by a majority of voters in a Sept. 9 special election.
