The American Red Cross called to say there is an urgent need for blood again this summer. They will be at Greenbrier First United Methodist Church today from 3-7 p.m. to collect blood. If you have a donor card, bring it with you and also drink plenty of fluid before coming to be sure you are hydrated.

The need is also great to help re-stock their food pantry at the church. The Food Pantry has had a busy first seven months of the year. Donations of food have been down this past month as the need has increased and they have had to buy more food from their food pantry account to keep up with the need. The food pantry is currently in need of any food items such as 1lb rolls/packages of hamburger; peanut butter and jelly; pancake and syrup; helpers; instant potatoes; rice; Spam; canned chicken, breakfast cereal, spaghetti and sauce, hot dogs, and Ramen noodles. Any items you can bring to the church office will be greatly appreciated as the need has increased this year. They have already assisted 200 households compared to all of last year, when they helped 236 families. At that pace they expect to serve 350 families by the end of this year.

Greenbrier First United Methodist Church announced another give-away. This time they will be collecting gently used clothing to be donated to the church through September 7 in order to have a huge give-away to the community on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 7 a.m. to noon. They have given away jeans in past give-aways with great success and hope they can help our community even more. You can start bringing good quality clothes you no longer wear or your kids have outgrown for the Great Clothing Give-Away. If possible have them on hangers when you bring them. It will make it much easier for their volunteers as they sort. The church is at the corner of Tyler Street and Hwy 65.
