The Rev. Archie W. Wheeler, 100, of Conway, formerly of Clarksville, died Sunday Aug. 1, 2010, in Greenbrier. 

He was born Nov. 25, 1909, at Alix, Ark., son of the late Fred and Mary McCleary Wheeler.

He was a retired coal miner, Army veteran of World War II and wounded in Germany and received a Purple Heart. 

He was a minister at several churches including East Mount Zion, Woodland, Spradra and Union Grove Baptist Churches.

He was a member of the Harlan Park Baptist Church at Conway.

He was employed at Fair Store in Clarksville as a clerk and was later manager for several years. 

He was preceded in death by wife, Mildred Barnett Wheeler, and nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include daughters, Velma Albat of Conway, Mary Ann Plumlee and husband Hugh of Berryville, and Linda Jetton of Russellville; five grandchildren, Karen Doss of Farmington, Alan Plumlee of Harrison, Erich Albat of Conway, Vickie Gibson of Conway and Tony Jetton of Russellville; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at the East Mount Zion Baptist Church with a burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville. 

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home in Clarksville.
