Mr. Joe L. Thompson, 84, of North Little Rock, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010.  

Joe was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Scotland, Ark., to the late Edgar and Lizzie (Miller) Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.  

He coached basketball at several different schools including Big Flat, Center Ridge and Greenbrier.  

He worked for the Arkansas Rehab Service for a number of years as the area supervisor.  

Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. 

He was a longstanding member of the Levy Church of Christ in North Little Rock.   

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Mary Nell Thompson of 60 years; two children, Gregg Thompson of Sherwood and Doug (Lisa) Thompson of Fayetteville; three brothers, John Thompson of Russiaville, Ind.,  Bill Thompson of Carthage, Texas, and Marion Thompson of Sikeston; and one sister, Ruth Bradley of Culpepper, Ark.  

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Tyler Joe, Megan, Lauren, Grace and Samuel Thompson.     

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Griffin Leggett Funeral Home, 1751 Dave Ward Drive in Conway.
