Alton J. Davis

Mr. Alton J. Davis, 87 of Mayflower, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010.  Alton was born Oct. 6, 1923 in Damascus, Ark. to the late Arlie and Edith Ann (Sandage) Davis.  He is also preceded in death by sisters Lucille Hudson and Mildred New, sons Terry Davis and Jackie Davis, grandson Michael Squires, and his first wife, Lorene Needham Davis.

Davis was a member of Pentecostal Church of Mayflower. He enjoyed gardening and reading.  He is survived by his wife, Maxine Davis of Mayflower; son Shelby Davis of Maumelle, daughters Phylliss McIver of Little Rock and Brenda Moore of Sheridan; stepsons Gary Wheeler of Springfield, Mo, Anthony Wheeler and Alex Wheeler, both of Bentonville; stepdaughters Elizabeth Dixon and Teresa Williams, both of Mayflower; sisters Audrey Moore, Willodene Glover, and Quida Uber, all of Modesto, Calif.; four grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; 16 step-grandchildren, 14 great step-grandchildren, and 1 great great step-grandchild; and a host of family and friends.  

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22 at the funeral home, with Rev. Dewayne Dycus officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Alexander.  Pallbearers will be Erik Wheeler, Joey Williams, James Williams, Jarod Williams, Ryan McIver, and Brent Davis. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Davis and Fay Davis.
