NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Rogers Heritage turned back a dramatic, two-run rally by Conway in the seventh inning Monday to take a 3-2 victory in the 7A baseball semifinal at Vince DeSalvo Memorial Stadium.
The Wampus Cats (18-8), the defending state champions, had gone into the seventh with only one hit off Heritage ace Hunter Wood. They produced four in the last inning and loaded the bases with one out. Wood then struck out Alex Smith (his 10th strikeout), then Jacob Adams' hit a ball deep to right, but right at Heritage's Forrest Ward to end the game.
The War Eagles got a run in the first, then got a needed cushion in the top of the seventh on Blake Baxendale's two-out double to right.
Conway starter Connor Prout struck out six and allowed six hits.
Heritage will play Bryant, a 9-0 victor over Bentonville in the other semifinal, Friday for the state title at Fayetteville's Baum Stadium.
Vilonia reached the 5A state championship game in softball with a 3-1 victory over Alma in a semifinal at Wynne.
White Hall defeated Greenbrier, the 5A West champion, 5-3 in the other semifinal.
