SHERWOOD — On a soggy, dreary night at Bear Stadium, the Vilonia Eagles won a struggle of sloppiness Thursday night against the Sylvan Hills Bears.

The Eagles' Martin Reyes recovered a fumble in the end zone early in the second quarter for the only score in a 7-0 victory in the hastily rescheduled season-opener for each team.

Vilonia missed a couple of scoring opportunities the first half, then the offenses struggled the second half as footing on the grass surface became challenging as most of the game was played in high winds and driving rain.

The teams had combined for 12 fumbles in the first half. The second half featured more fumbles and an assortment of penalties.

The game, originally scheduled from Friday, was rescheduled Thursday morning by Sylvan Hills officials because they didn't want to play on the grass field after almost two days of rain.

The Eagles open at home Friday, Sept. 7, against Wynne.
