GREERS FERRY — Mount Vernon Enola's girls became the first smaller school in Faulkner County to clinch a state tournament berth with a 47-26 victory over Midland in a first-round game in the Class A Region Tournament at West Side High School.

The Lady Warhawks (31-2) will play either Greers Ferry West Side or Wonderview in Friday's 4 p.m. semifinals. Four teams qualify for the state tournament, which will be played at Bradley.

The Lady Warhawks, the 5A North champions, led almost wire to wire against the Lady Mustangs, the No. 4 seed from 2A-South. They built a 24-9 halftime lead and were never seriously challenged the second half.

Shanna Smith led MV-Enola with 17 points. Heather Prowse added 12.

More on Wednesday's regional games can be found in Friday's print edition of the Log Cabin Democrat.
