The Sonshine Academy boys gymnastics team took home several medals recently in the Arkansas Men’s Benefit Cup in Van Buren. 

In the individual competition, seven Sonshine gymnasts either won or placed in the top 3 in individual events or the all-around in their level and age group.  

In the level 4 Team division, Sonshine entered four gymnasts; Chase Birdwell, Colton Ray, Haden Ray and John Trent. Ray placed third on the parallel bars; second on the pommel horse and in the all-around; and first on the rings and high bar. Trent won the vault and was second on the pommel horse, rings, floor, parallel bars, and in the all-around. The Level 4 boys also took fifth place in the team competition.

The Level 5 division had four Sonshine gymnasts; Andrew Hare, Blake Hopkins, Jay Krisle and Cullen Odem. Odom placed first on the vault. Hopkins placed second on the pommel horse.

Sonshine had two Level 6 gymnasts, Josh Farewell and Michael Rickles. Farewell placed first on the Floor. Rickels placed third on the rings, second on the high bar and first on the vault, parallel bars and floor and in the all-around.

Jake Fisher was the only Level 8 gymnast from Sonshine and placed second on the floor and first on the vault.

The head boys team coaches are Bubba Corbitt and Michael Stage.
