Conway Christian, with medalist Brianna Keith, claimed the girls 2A-3 golf championship Monday at The Links at Cadron Valley.

Keith earned top honors with a 40. Melissa Hambuchen of St. Joseph was second at 46. Hambuchen, Andrea Gosnell and Rachel Ross of St. Joseph qualified as individuals for next week’s Class 2A state tournament.

CCS wo the team title with a combined 144. Bigelow came in at 179 and St. Joseph at 194.

CCS and Bigelow will advance as teams to the 2A tournament at Chamberlyne Golf Club in Danville.

The 2A-3 boys tournament will be held Tuesday, Sept. 25, at The Links at Cadron Valley.

Runners, representing 35 schools throughout the state, battled a downpour Saturday in Conway High’s open high school meet at Lake Beaverfork.

Conway’s Henry Hawk, one of the country’s most accomplished senior runners and world-record holder, was the guest starter for the event.

Little Rock Christian, Heber Springs, Vilonia all took away overall team plaques with Conway placing seventh out of thirty-five schools.

Vilonia won the junior boys division with Conway taking the junior girls division.

St. Joseph took a 25-5, 25-11, 25-11 victory Monday in high school girls volleyball at the St. Joseph Family Activity Center.

Madelne Moix had six kills for the Lady Bulldogs (5-6, 4-2). Rachell Briggler served 13 of 13 and had three aces. Sydney Spradlin had 15 assists and Megan Briggler led in digs.

"It’s tiime to start being more consistent," said coach Luke Davis. "Next week, we start the second half of conference."

LEDBETTER, Ky. — Senior Julia Roth survived a seven-hole playoff on Tuesday to earn medalist honors and lead the University of Central Arkansas’ women’s golf team to a five-stroke victory at the Murray State Drake Creek Invitational.

Roth, from Karlskrona, Sweden, outlasted Arkansas State’s Anna Carling to win the individual title at Drake Creek Golf Club. UCA freshman Sarah Brown also earned All-Tournament honors with a tie for third place. Roth shot rounds of 74-72-74 for a 4-over 220. Brown followed with a 75-73-75-223.

Sophomore Malin Senneryd shot 79-77-76-232 and tied for 19th place, while junior Carly Dear shot 78-71-87- 236 and tied for 26th. Freshman Jamie Jaruvangsanti tied for 41st (82-82-82-246).

UCA (906) topped Arkansas State (911), Belmont University (919), Columbia University (922), Southern Illinois (927), Murray State (929), Austin Peay (934), Drake (958), Northern Iowa (963), Jackson State (1,011) and Tennessee State (1,152).
