Smothers 11th in Payton voting

University of Central Arkansas quarterback Wynrick Smothers, who helped lead the Bears to a Southland Conference co-championship, finished 11th in the voting for the Walter Payton Award, the equivalent of the Heisman Trophy in NCAA FCS.

Tim Flanders of Sam Houston State finished 13th.

The three finalists for the award, presented by The Sports Network, are fullback Eric Breitenstein of Wofford, quarterback Taylor Heinicke of Old Dominion and running by Miguel Maysonet of Stony Brook.

The award will presented during the NCAA FCS national championship festivities in January at Frisco, Texas.

Voting was done by a panel of media members and sports information directors.
