LAKE CHARLES, La. — The University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears had no trouble stretching their winning streak to seven Tuesday night.
The UCA women (16-4, 8-2) led almost wire to wire in a dominating, 72-49 victory over the MeNeese State Cowgirls (10-11, 5-5). UCA put the game away by outscoring the Cowgirls, 27-8 in the second quarter.
The victory gave the Sugar Bears a rare season sweep over McNeese, which lost its third in a row. UCA has now won five in a row over McNeese.
Maggie Proffitt led the Sugar Bears with 22 points. Taylor Baudoin added 16. Brianna Mullins had nine points and nine rebounds. Proffitt hit six 3-pointers.
UCA held McNeese to 30 percent shooting (19 of 62). The Sugar Bears were 29 of 50 (58 percent) from the field.
UCA dominated the defensive board, 30-8.
The Sugar Bears return to the Farris Center on Saturday afternoon to take on Southeastern Louisiana as part of a women-men doubleheader. That game will begin at 2 p.m.
