UCA men open conference play

The Central Arkansas men’s soccer team will open Missouri Valley Conference play on Wednesday night, hosting the Missouri State Bears at the Bill Stephens Complex. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.

Central Arkansas (1-5-0, 0-0-0 MVC) is coming off of a win in its last game, a 3-0 defeat of Fort Wayne at the Dayton Flyers Invitational. On the season, the Bears have scored six goals in six games while allowing 10, but are outshooting their opponents 70 to 23. Head coach Ross Duncan has sent 22 players on to the pitch, due to injuries and effectiveness.

Lira leads UCA in golf tourney

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of Central Arkansas finished in 18th place on Tuesday at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico at the UNM Championship Golf Course.

Senior Fernanda Lira shot 73-74-73-220 and tied for 25th place overall. Junior Emma Svensson shot 75-71-75- 221 and tied for 33rd place. Freshman Geraldine Wong shot 78-76-80- 234 and tied for 85th place, while freshman Brett Permann shot 75-87-84- 246 and finished 98th. Junior Sally Fridstrom shot 88-91-83- 262 and was 99th.

Oklahoma State won the tournament, followed by Northwestern, Colorado, Stanford and San Diego State rounding out the Top 5. Denver was next, followed by New Mexico, Iowa, Iowa State, Texas, Arizona, UNLV, Pepperdine, Fresno State, UC Berkeley, Washington State, UC-Davis and UCA.

UCA’s Dunn gets weekly honor

University of Central Arkansas’ Taylor Dunn was named the Southland Conference Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Dunn, a junior from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, took the individual title and led UCA to the team title at the UCA XC Challenge on Saturday at Beaverfork Lake in Conway. She ran a 17:17.5 over the three-mile course to lead UCA’s 1-2-3-5-7 finish, which was good for 18 points.

Brodacki gets MVC award

After a week in which the Central Arkansas men’s soccer team picked up its first win of the season, sophomore Niklas Brodacki ws named the Missouri Valley Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week.

Brodacki scored three goals and added an assist as UCA went 1-1 in the Dayton Invitational.
