TULSA, Okla. — The University of Central Arkansas Bears let a 3-0 lead slip away Wednesday and lost 4-3 to the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles in nonconference action at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
The Bears (2-5) got an RBI single by Tyler Smith in the top of the third inning, scoring Coby Potvin with the game’s first run. UCA added two more in the fourth inning, with the help of two errors and three hit batters. Potvin picked up one of the RBIs with a fielder’s choice and Eddie Sanchez scored the other on one of the errors.
The Golden Eagles (5-1) got two of the runs back with a two-run home run by Riley Keizor in the bottom of the fourth, then tied it at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh on Jared Montoya’s RBI single down the left-field line.
ORU came up with the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth inning when junior Cal Hernandez hit a solo shot to left field.
Potvin, a juniorfrom Temple Community College, had two of UCA’s seven hits. Senior lefthander Will Brand went 7 1/3 innings for the Bears, allowing nine hits, four runs and striking out six.
The Bears host the Creighton Blue Jays in a three-game non-conference series this weekend. Game times are 4 p.m. Friday, noon on Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at Bear Stadium.
MORRILTON — The Mount Vernon-Enola boys (29-8) raced to a 76-59 victory over Acorn in the first round of the Class 1A state basketball tournament here.
Kanyin Martin led the Warhawks with 32 points. Joshua Leggett had 15 and Jasper Lashley added 11.
The Warhawks advanced to play Woodlawn in Thursday night's late game.
